Licensing
TridentStack Control uses per-endpoint licensing. Every account includes 200 free endpoints with full platform capabilities, no time limit, and no feature restrictions. You only pay for endpoints beyond the first 200.
How Licensing Works
Each registered agent is either licensed or unlicensed:
- Licensed agents have full access to all platform capabilities: update management, vulnerability scanning, compliance evaluation, policy enforcement, telemetry collection, and log collection.
- Unlicensed agents remain visible in your endpoint list and continue to report basic connectivity (hostname, IP address, online/offline status), but cannot receive management actions.
Licensing is enforced at the platform level. When you attempt an action on an unlicensed agent, the platform will indicate that a license is required.
Free Endpoints
Every account includes 200 free endpoint licenses at no cost, with no time limit and no feature restrictions. A free license has identical capabilities to a paid license. If your fleet is 200 endpoints or fewer, you never pay anything.
Free licenses are assigned automatically in registration order, starting with your oldest agents. Every free license is equal; none is special or singled out. Beyond 200 endpoints, additional licenses require a paid subscription at five dollars per endpoint per month.
Managing Licenses
Navigate to Settings > Licensing to view and manage your license assignments.
Summary Cards
The top of the page displays four summary cards:
| Card | Description |
|---|---|
| Licensed Agents | How many of your available licenses are currently assigned, shown as "used / total" |
| Total Agents | The total number of registered agents in your account |
| Available Slots | Remaining license slots that can be assigned to agents |
| Subscription | Your current subscription status and billing cycle |
Agent License Table
Below the summary, a table lists every registered agent with its current license status:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Licensed | This agent has an active license (one of your 200 free licenses, or a paid one) |
| Unlicensed | This agent does not have a license and cannot receive management actions |
The table is searchable and sortable by any column (sorted by hostname by default). Use the Columns menu to show, hide, reorder, or resize columns.
Assigning and Unassigning Licenses
You can act on a single endpoint or on many at once:
- One endpoint - Hover a row and use its Assign or Unassign action.
- Several endpoints - Select endpoints with the checkboxes, then use the Assign Licenses or Unassign Licenses buttons that appear above the table.
What each action does:
- Assign - Give a license to an unlicensed endpoint. If you select more endpoints than you have free license slots, the platform licenses as many as it can, starting with your oldest endpoints, and tells you how many more licenses you would need to cover the rest.
- Unassign - Remove a license from a licensed endpoint. The endpoint becomes unlicensed and stops receiving management actions. Data collected while it was licensed is preserved.
Auto-Assignment
When licenses are added to your account (through a new subscription or an increase in license count), the platform automatically assigns them to agents in registration order, starting with the oldest. You can manually reassign licenses at any time after auto-assignment completes.
When licenses are removed (subscription downgrade or cancellation), the platform keeps your free licenses on the oldest agents and removes paid licenses starting from the most recently registered agents.
Subscription Management
To add licenses or manage your subscription, visit the billing portal at tridentstack.com/dashboard. From the billing portal you can:
- Adjust the number of licensed endpoints
- Switch between monthly and annual billing
- Update payment methods
- View invoices and payment history
You can pay by card or by US bank account (ACH). To pay by bank, choose US bank account in the payment form. The quickest way is to sign in to your bank through Stripe's secure bank connection: the account is verified instantly and no routing or account numbers are typed. If your bank is not listed, choose Enter bank details manually and type the routing and account numbers instead; Stripe then sends two small deposits to the account within 1-2 business days, and you confirm the amounts from the link in your confirmation email (or on the billing page) to verify the account. Your licenses take effect as soon as you confirm the order either way. Nothing is debited from a manually entered account until it is verified; the first payment starts the day it is. Bank payments typically take about 4 business days to clear, and the invoice shows as Processing until then.
If a manually entered account is not verified within 11 days, the order is canceled and its paid licenses are removed. If your bank returns the first debit, the subscription is canceled and its paid licenses are removed. In both cases your first 200 endpoints stay managed at no cost, with every feature, and you can subscribe again with a card, a bank sign-in, or the account details.
You sign in to the billing portal with the same account you use for TridentStack Control. Any sign-in method that works for Control, including email codes and single sign-on, works for the billing portal too.
A link to the billing portal is also available directly on the Settings > Licensing page.
Paying by invoice
If your organization pays suppliers by bank transfer rather than by card, you can pay annually by invoice instead. On the billing page, choose the Annual cycle, then use Pay by invoice. Before you submit, you can download an order form showing your endpoint count, price and payment instructions.
Invoice billing works like this:
- It is annual prepay at $50 per paid endpoint per year. Your first 200 endpoints are free, so an account with 364 endpoints pays for 164.
- Each request is reviewed by TridentStack. Your paid licenses are granted once the request is approved, and you receive the invoice by email.
- Invoices are due within 30 days and are paid by ACH transfer or wire, using the instructions on the invoice.
- Your invoices appear on the Invoices page of the billing portal alongside any card or bank debit invoices.
An account uses one payment method at a time: card and bank debit, or invoice. To change your endpoint count, switch methods or cancel while paying by invoice, contact support@tridentstack.com.
Billing Terms
Before your first purchase, and before a request to pay by invoice, you are asked to agree to the Billing Terms. When the Billing Terms change, we let you know before your renewal date, and ask you to agree to the new version before your next purchase or plan change.
If a payment fails
If a card or bank debit payment fails, or an invoice is not paid, your account enters a 60-day grace period. Your paid endpoints stay active throughout it. Your billing contacts are notified when the grace period starts and again on day 30 and day 53. If payment is still unresolved at day 60, after those reminders have been sent, paid licenses may be suspended. Suspension returns the account to the 200 free endpoints, and no data is deleted. Your paid endpoints are restored once payment is resolved.
For billing questions or to dispute a charge, contact support@tridentstack.com or use the Support tab in your account.
Changes to your subscription are reflected in TridentStack Control within a few minutes. License assignments update automatically when your licensed endpoint count changes.
Receipts and renewal notices
After every payment, your billing contacts receive a receipt email. It includes a link to view the invoice online and a PDF copy of the invoice attached. If the PDF cannot be attached, the email still includes the link.
On an annual plan, your billing contacts also receive a reminder before the plan renews. On the billing page, under Renewal notices, choose when the reminders arrive: 60, 30 or 7 days before the renewal date. You can pick any combination, and at least one must stay selected. New annual plans start with the 30-day reminder.
Receipts and renewal notices go to the account's billing owner and billing administrators.
Cancellation
If you cancel your subscription, paid licenses are removed at the end of your current billing period. Your first 200 endpoints remain licensed and fully functional at no cost, with every feature. All data previously collected from licensed agents is retained and accessible in read-only form.
Closing your account
Closing your account is different from canceling a subscription. Cancellation keeps your first 200 endpoints free, with your data intact. Closing your account ends your use of TridentStack Control entirely. Account administrators can close the account in Settings under Privacy and Data, or contact support. Closed accounts enter a 90 day recovery window during which you can ask us to restore access. After the window, your data is permanently deleted from our production systems. Limited records are kept where required: billing records held by our payment processor and security audit logs retained for compliance, with encrypted backup copies expiring on a fixed rotation.
